Explore your creative depths during a five-day deep dive in Ashville, NC where I will join the fabulous Bridget Benton, author of The Creative Conversation: ArtMaking as Playful Prayer. This special workshop delves into discovering your unique artistic voice by drawing inspiration from nature and integrating personal narratives. Activities include writing prompts, organic mark-making, and plant printing, with a focus on how to incorporate these techniques into encaustic art. Under the guidance of TWO passionate and experienced instructors, you'll develop a nature inspired 'creative language' to craft artwork with personal significance AND have a ton of fun!

This fast-paced workshop is packed with information and offers a wonderful hands-on opportunity to explore the exciting realms of mixed media, collage, and encaustic painting. Throughout the session, you will receive personalized feedback tailored to your individual techniques and the materials you choose to work with, all aimed at helping you advance your skills and deepen your understanding of this rich and versatile paint medium.

A firm foundation of basic skills and safety will be covered with multiple demos that will include set-up, layering and application techniques, fusing options, color mixing, surface texture and mixed media application. There will be plenty of time for hands-on practice and personal feedback. The only requirement is an attitude of curiosity and learning. This workshop is great for non-artist types and beginners, but I will also address those ready for more advanced direction in their painting practice.

I teach to the student, so bring your questions and curiosity and let’s paint! Most materials, including beautiful R&F paints and products, are generously supplied in support of this workshop.

This expertly curated Encaustic program brings together 27 world-renowned artists, offering over 60 hours of intensive, inspiring lessons in this ancient yet ever-evolving medium.

My Workshops include a deep dive into developing intentional content and adding more meaning to your work. AND a long format instruction on making your own Erotic Saint and how to include social commentary as content.

Classes start on the 24th April, 2024 but since these are prerecorded videos, you can register anytime! You get instant access to the already released classes when you sign up.

Classes are delivered on Wednesdays, approximately 12 noon EST as prerecorded videos and once they are available, you can watch whenever you wish.

Weekly classes are approximately 60 mins or longer.

Work along, at your leisure or just watch, and jump in when you are ready.

From Ireland to Oregon—With heartfelt thanks to the Regional Arts and Culture Council for their support in bringing these materials, processes, and ideas back to share with my community. With the use of peat ash, peat turf, and holy water from St. Brigid’s well you will combine carbon based materials on burnt paper to create a magical piece and learn about the cultural, historical and environmental impact of these precious location specific materials!

Encaustic Painting (hot wax, damar resin and pigment) is a unique and addictive process with endless applications and possibilities of expression. Using torches, irons and other fusing methods encaustic paint is layered and fused to create uniquely depthful, luminous surfaces. Multiple base techniques, specialized tools are covered to give the foundation for understanding the specifics and safety of this medium in all encaustic-based workshops.

More advanced and specialized techniques will focus on expanding your skill sets and refining proficiency meeting you where you are in your learning journey. Advanced techniques may include the use and combination of multiple mixed media, mark making, hand pulled prints, stencils/masking/stamping, collage and the use of photography.
